The Physical Readiness System

We are ALL Athletes in Life!

StretchingThe Physical Readiness System is a 10-12 minute routine that employees perform together onsite before their shift begins - in order to physically prepare themselves for the demands of the job. The system emphasizes important elements such as movement, strength, balance, flexibility, and awareness to improve the condition of the workforce and especially to reduce injuries. It also provides focus, motivation, and a team-like atmosphere.

WHY get Physically Ready for work?

  • Increased physical efficiency and performance of daily tasks
  • Increased awareness of one’s self
  • Decreased risk of injury
  • Decreased wear and tear on joints
  • Increased coordination
  • Reduced muscular soreness
  • Improved balance and postural awareness
  • Decreased risk of low back, neck (headaches), elbow, and wrist pain
  • Increased blood supply to muscles, tendons and joints
  • Reduced Stress (relaxation)
  • Enhanced well-being

PHASE I: The Gameplan for Aging Your Four Quarters of Life Motivational Seminar

The implementation of the Physical Readiness System is introduced by our renowned motivational seminar: The Gameplan for Aging; Your Four Quarters of Life. This seminar is a meaningful reality check that provides participants with the knowledge and motivation to make a plan of action that will benefit their own personal well-being and safety by improving their lifestyle.

PHASE II: Train the Trainer

“Physical Readiness Coach” volunteers from each shift will act as team leaders, who will motivate others and lead the Physical Readiness System each day.

Physical Readiness Coaches will be equipped with the following:
  • Biomechanics of the Physical Readiness System
  • Proper flexibility & lifting techniques
  • Overview of the anatomy and prevention of injuries
  • Group motivational skills and employee health promotion
  • How to address those with limitations
  • How to address reluctant participants
The Physical Readiness System also includes:
  • Instructional DVDs
  • Physical Readiness Technique Posters
  • Employee Handouts
  • Physical Readiness Coach Manuals
  • Laminated Physical Readiness Cards
  • Employee Evaluation Forms

The Physical Readiness System has been implemented in hundreds of corporations throughout the country. We have over a million American workers performing the Physical Readiness System on the clock every day.

We have had the opportunity to pilot Occupational Athletic’s - Game Plan for Aging / Pre Stretch Daily Exercises at Johnsonville’s Riverside Facility beginning Jan 2010.  The change in thinking is having a very positive effect on our ergonomic related injuries.  Our Members (once very skeptical… before the journey began) have fully embraced it.  Mark has been blessed with the special ability to be able to touch his listeners head and heart with real-life stories that make a profound impact on their lives.  Many of our members (including myself) are now engaged in daily workouts at our Global Exercise Center.  We have witnessed some great success with members dropping 20, 30, 40 and even 50 lbs.

After we were about 4 weeks into our journey, two veteran (or seasoned players, as Mark likes to refer to them) approached me in the hallway and said:

We are feeling better each day now that we are stretching.  We really notice the improvement at the beginning and end of our work day.  You know, Shane, that a few members on our team have worked at other places over the last 30 years, and Johnsonville Sausage is the only employer that cares enough to bring in a great resource like Mark to help us feel better.  That means a lot to us and says a lot about Johnsonville as a company.
